Leading for success – with pride

This week CSC released its 2016 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report and 2016 GRI G4 Report.

cr-reportOur Corporate Responsibility (CR) program focuses on delivering against our CR strategy day-to-day. So it’s important to take a step back, reach out to the teams across the globe and collate all that we have achieved together.

CSC has a great and continually improving CR story, and we fully appreciate the significant environmental and societal impact our efforts have produced this year.

Here are some highlights:

We’ve made significant strides in our energy program, re-baselining our environmental data to take account of the separation of CSC from CSRA in the last year. We are pleased to 2016-gri-g4_400hreport an absolute energy reduction of 14.6 percent against our 2012 baseline, and we’re on target to achieve our goal of 20 percent by 2018.

We also achieved a 14.3% global greenhouse gas reduction with the aim of achieving or exceeding our 18 percent goal by 2018. And we achieved — for the first time — a zero-waste-to landfill goal for disposal of our electronic waste products.

In 2016 we received a number of sustainability awards and accolades, which are listed in our report. Here are a few examples:

  • Placed #13 in CR Magazine’s top 100 Corporate Citizens List — a rise of 22 points in just one year.
  • Achieved FTSE4Good ranking
  • Ranked #1 in the IT Industry as the 2016 Top Military Friendly Employer and Military Spouse Friendly Employer
  • Scored 100% in the 2016 Disability Equality Index in the US

Choosing Resource-Efficient Buildings

The new CSC corporate headquarters in Tysons, Virginia, is designed to meet the requirements of LEED Platinum certification. Its resource-efficient building design uses less water and energy and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions. As an added bonus, it also saves money.

This is the latest in a series of CSC buildings that have excellent energy-efficiency credentials, with natural lighting, insulation and an efficient layout. Our new Paris office in La Defense is also achieving a high environmental quality standard against the French HQE certification, and our relocation has enabled us to reduce energy consumption by more than 80 percent in this office.

Investing in the Next Generation

Engaging and enabling the next generation of scientists and engineers remains a key priority for us, which is why last year, we continued to focus our investment in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs such as Lunch ‘n’ LEGO to increase employee-led community investments and connect with local STEM organizations around the world.

Employees Making a Difference

CR is at the heart of CSC. Whether it’s sharing skills, volunteering or raising money for great causes, CSC colleagues are making significant contributions around the globe.

  • Australia: Our Managing Director participated in a CEO Cookout, an initiative partnering with professional chefs to serve meals to over 1,000 hungry and homeless Australians whilst raising money.
  • Germany: The team worked alongside other partners on Initiative D21, a non-profit, to help create a next-gen Refugee Support Platform in response to the European migrant crisis.
  • India: For Earth Day, our CSC team joined the Indian government’s Clean India campaign, with clean-up drives, and awareness-raising sessions involving local communities and schools. They collected discarded PET bottles to use as building material for local landscaping projects and planted trees in nearby schools.
  • Vietnam: CSCers delivered school supplies and financial gifts to a Ho Chi Minh City shelter providing food and educational services to vulnerable children

Great thanks goes to everyone who contributed to CSC’s accomplishments presented in this report. It is your commitment, passion and dedication that enables the principles of responsible and sustainable business practices to flourish in our company. For that, we should all be immensely proud.
