Six-figure tech jobs you can do in your pajamas

working-from-home

One of the most enticing benefits enterprises can offer their employees is the opportunity to work from home. Working remotely provides employees with increased schedule flexibility, while also helping them avoid the cost and time spent commuting to and from an office.

Couple that freedom with a high salary, and now you’re talking about a job that lots of people really would like to have! CNBC recently culled some data from career site FlexJobs to compile a list of 10 tech jobs people can do from home that pay at least $100,000 annually. Some will require some training or acquired expertise on your part, but you’re supposed to be learning every day for the rest of your lives, remember?

  • Senior machine learning engineer — $180,000 to $220,000
  • Senior Android developer — $140,000
  • Engineering manager — $125,000 to $165,000
  • Machine learning expert — $120,000 to $160,000a
  • Senior Java developer — $120,000 to $160,000
  • Principal backend engineer — $130,000 to $155,000
  • React mobile developer — $130,000
  • Data analyst senior — $115,000
  • Cloud architect — $110,000
  • Site reliability engineer — $105,000 to $140,000

Again, you’re not likely to waltz into any of these positions based on your dazzling personality alone. Getting offered that senior Android developer’s gig, for example, likely will require you to have at least two years’ experience with the Kotlin programming language. Successful candidates for cloud architect jobs probably need expertise in Microsoft Windows OS applications and some demonstrated experience with infrastructure migrations. And it’s always helpful for Java developers to have experience in, you know, Java development.

While a great salary and the ability to work remotely sound like an unbeatable combination, some notes of caution:

  1. A bad organization is a bad organization, no matter where you’re working from.
  2. A bad job fit is a bad job fit, no matter what you’re wearing.
  3. Like it or not, the burden of communicating with colleagues — both supervisors and subordinates — is on you.
  4. Working from home has its own unique challenges.

So do your due diligence on the hiring organization, make sure you’ll probably like the job, and take steps to remain connected so 1) nobody forgets who you are and 2) you can retain your sanity. Do all that and your six-figure, work-at-home dream job can become a reality!
